Diagnostic Imaging Department
Loretto Hospital has been diligent with keeping up with the technology needed to provide superior services to the communities it serves, in order to result in the best health care outcomes. In these continued efforts Loretto’s Diagnostic Imaging Department has acquired a state of the art Aquilion 64-slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanner.
Over the years, Computed Tomography Systems have played an integral role in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases and health conditions. Starting with a single-slice system, CT technology has advanced from 4-, 8-, 16-, 32- and most recently a 64-slice system. Advances in CT technology have improved patient care and created new ways to diagnose and treat diseases.
Multi-detector CT has dramatically improved clinicians' ability to accurately diagnose disease at an early stage. It is a powerful diagnostic tool that uses rotating X-rays to penetrate body tissues, generating multiple slice images, which can detect more than traditional radiography.
The Aquilion 64-slice computed tomography scanner from Toshiba America Medical Systems is one of the most advanced 64-slice CT scanners available today and represents the leading edge in medical technology. It features Toshiba's proprietary Quantum detector technology --- the only detector able to acquire up to 64, 0.5mm slices simultaneously. The Aquilion CT System delivers excellent image quality and provides outstanding performance and clinical productivity to meet the needs of any size hospital or clinic.
The most important element to acquiring such machinery is how it will benefit our patients. Loretto Hospital’s radiologists will be able to define diseases in 2D, 3D and 4D images of the anatomy to provide enhanced diagnostic and treatment for patients. While patients take a single breath and hold it for just 6 to 10 seconds, the Aquilion 64 can capture superior, precise images of their bodies; which makes it a fast and comfortable procedure. These diagnostic images will help Loretto's physicians check for suspected heart, lung, and brain disease, tumor detection, infectious diseases and vascular disease, which will allow for better and more definitive treatment for our patients.
