Welcome to the Medical Education Department at The Loretto Hospital. Medical education is an integral part of our mission as an institution of learning for medical students who are seeking clinical rotations and externship program. We offer an in-depth clinical experience in primary care and introduction to various medical specialties.

Psychiatry Residency Program

We are excited to announce that The Loretto Hospital is accredited by ACGME to conduct a 4 Year Psychiatry Residency Program. The application process for the 2020 year is closed. Please check back in July 2020 to apply for the year 2021 program.

Candidates interested in applying please submit the following documents for your application to be complete and considered:

  2. Medical Diploma
  3. Medical School Transcript
  4. USMLE Transcript
  5. ECFMG Certificate
  6. MSPE (Dean’s letter)
  7. Letters of Recommendation (Minimum 3; Maximum 4)
  8. Personal statement
  9. ERAS Application in CV format

Clinical Rotations & Externships

Students and graduates will be exposed to both inpatient and outpatient clinical rotations led by Loretto’s network of teaching attending physicians. We also offer other core and elective rotations through affiliated networks. Our rotations include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Family Medicine
  • Psychiatry
  • Internal Medicine
  • General Surgery
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Urology
  • Addiction Medicine
  • Research
  • Infectious Disease
  • Cardiology

Establishing Clinical Rotations at The Loretto Hospital:

  • You will receive an e-mail regarding the availability of the rotation. Once the rotation is confirmed, please email the following required information to Saarah Alkhairy via email at All information must be emailed as a PDF.
  • Identification
    • Driver’s license or passport (if a US citizen)
    • Passport plus visa (if a non-US citizen)
  • Background check
  • HIPAA certification
  • MMR immunity
  • Varicella immunity
  • Hepatitis B immunity
  • Negative TB/chest x-ray
  • Malpractice insurance
  • 10 panel drug screen
  • Flu shot (if the rotation starts from September to March)
  • Current onsite CPR certificate (online certifications will not be accepted)
  • Resume
  • Diploma (if a graduate)
  • Letter of good standing (if a student)

Once we receive all the required documentation, along with your payment, you will receive information containing details about orientation.

We also offer United States Medical Licensing Examination courses (USMLE) Steps 1 and 2. Both sections are taught by experienced instructors who are certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) for Step 1 and Clinical Skills (CS) for Step 2 instructors. Students will receive intensive training and immediate personalized feedback throughout the duration of both courses.

USMLE Step 2 CS Prep course includes:

  • Learning how to document the patient’s medical history
  • Physical examination
  • Patient note practice

  • A 9-case mock exam with feedback

  1. Course plus Mock exam (3, 5, or 7 days)
  2. Mock exam only (1 day)
  3. Per Patient Encounter
